The 17th Edition of GABS Hottest 100 Craft Beer people’s choice poll produced another epic countdown with a battle of beers between nearly 400 of Australia’s best craft breweries.
Tens of thousands of voters registered to have their voices heard, as they shared votes between nearly 1,500 delicious beers. Whilst 70 breweries made this year’s list, the big winner was craft beers as taps flowed across the country and crowds gathered to share in the festivities.

STAUS QUO THREE-PEATS AS AUSTRALIA’S FAVE CRAFT BEER! Mountain Culture’s beloved Status Quo Pale Ale has done the improbable and been voted as Australia’s #1 craft beer for the third year running! The Blue Mountains brewery, which recently announced Australian cricket hero Pat Cummins as an investor, dream came true as they matched an incredible feat which has only been achieved once before by Feral’s Hop Hog in 2012-2014. Some say that it may have something to do with the waters in Penrith where the brewery has expanded its production facilities. The city which has in recent times created serial winners, the one thing that all will agree on is that Mountain Culture’s Status Quo is now one of the most iconic beers to be made in Australia.
The list is full of fantastic performances by breweries of all sizes with incredible representation from across the country. Taking out second place with the best performance Coopers Pale Ale. With over 150 years of making beer in South Australia, it’s a wonderful result by Australia’s oldest independent brewery. Completing the podium are two time previous champion and Gold Coast favourite, Balter’s XPA. The top 10 was rounded off by BentSpoke Brewing Co, Crankshaft, Gage Roads Brewing Co, Single Fin Summer Ale, Range Brewing, Disco, Your Mates Brewing Co, Larry, Philter Brewing, XPA, 4 Pines Brewing Company, Japanese Lager and One Drop Brewing Co, We Jammin’. On Saturday 25th January, official countdown parties were held around the country as craft beer fans came out en masse for a fun filled day of celebrating beer with mates! The GABS Hottest 100 Countdown Host venues had the taps flowing, tunes playing and good times as beer became the conversational topic of the day.
